Whats Happening With The Booster Gold Movie, According To The Producer
DC has a large number of projects currently in various stages of development, and it can admittedly become challenging to keep track of them all sometimes. One such film is the long-rumored Booster Gold solo movie, which has consistently popped up on our radar for quite some time. Now, it looks like the project remains a definite possibility for DC, as producer Greg Berlanti recently opened up and admitted that a finished script exists, and the film is in active development. Berlanti said:
It's still in development with DC. I wrote a draft, they're trying to figure out both the distance that we still have to travel and how we want to execute it.
The Booster Gold movie has not received any official confirmation from the folks at DC yet, but that doesn't mean that it's not happening. Greg Berlanti has a finished script (he has also remained vocal about his desire to direct the film), and it's now a matter of figuring out what it will require to take it from a draft to a finished product. DC is currently in the process of shuffling projects around and making changes to its slate in the wake of Justice League's somewhat lackluster performance, and that means Booster effectively remains in limbo until a clear path forward can be established.
There's a strong case to be made that a character like Booster Gold is precisely the type of hero that DC could use right now. He's a time traveler from Gotham City circa the 25th century who goes back in time to become a fame-obsessed hero. He has no superhuman abilities to speak of, but his access to future tech gives him an upper hand against a wide variety of enemies. Moreover, Booster has also become a beloved DC hero because of his wise-cracking, smartass demeanor, which could make him a welcome addition to the somewhat darker tone of the current DCEU films (though some rumors have suggested that the Booster Gold film might not actually take place in the DCEU).
That said, Greg Berlanti also made sure to note in his chat with The Wrap that the fate of a Booster Gold movie ultimately lies in the hands of the studio, and not in his. The Arrow-verse producer continued:
If the studio is excited --- it's obviously their determination. We finished all the work we need to do on the draft, I would love to do something in that space. I'm still a little clueless on how movies come together. I show up to work every day and make the work as good as I can but then they call me and say, 'We're making it!'
